Bikes and bridges

Yesterday was the first time on the back of a scooter and today was looking like the first time I'd ride one for myself. Not one to shy away from a challenge, how hard could it be?

Safe to say I was soon proved wrong and I decided it was much better lying by the pool, but I'm digressing here, back to the start of the day.

We got a quick 5 minute lesson on how to drive and were off. First issue, the guy hadn't mentioned how to turn corners and yes failed pretty badly. Second issue, all the roads in lombongan are shocking, in fact I'm not sure you can call them roads.

There is no pictures of me actually driving one or whist driving as my death grip was back and was not letting go of those handles. But we manged about 25 minutes to our first destination, with just a few stops. Well ok a lot of stops of you know how many bends and corners there are on this island?

Out first stop was to see the lower part of the island which is only connected by a bridge, which we were told we could ride across, one short look at the actual bridge later and we realised that would not be happening.

Yes a nice sturdy structure there... Only wobbled when two bikes were trying to cross at the same time. Our plans changed pretty quickly and we decided to walk across instead. And anyone who really knows me, knows there is no way in hell that I'd cross anything like this, being that I'm scared of heights, bridges and falling off things. So you guessed it I walked across it!! First time across and I was too scared for pictures and more concerned with grabbing onto the very loose handrail/side everytime a motorbike rode past. Don't even get me started on the missing planks. But we made it in one piece and celebrated with a quick dip.

But then was the walk back, I was a lot braver this time being that I'd already done it and got some snaps to prove I walked it (just for you mum).

It was hot and we were all pooping ourselves on the bikes so we headed back to the hotel for some pool time. Nothing more therapeutic. Once my hands had finally relaxed and I could move them out of the bike grip they'd been stuck in for a while, I decided that getting back on the bike was not for me. I only now had to find someone to return the thing for me. Luckily Jane came to the rescue and with Jen and Nik they headed off into the sunset(nearly) for a little adventure before returning them. I went back to the pool.

Now I'm pretty sure we ended the night with dinner and bintang, but as some of you may have realised I'm running a tad behind on my posts (Nikki's birthday one will be nice and confusing) so can't 100% remember. Now luckily I do have some gorgeous sunset pics from the night before so I'm going to share them instead and pretend that's how we ended the dreaded day of bikes and bridges.
