Georgetown

So as you might have guessed we've now flown out of Thailand and are now in Malaysia. We're on the island called Penang and in the town called Georgetown. Some of you might not know that Malaysia was under British rule till 1957 so there is a lot of colonial influences around the city.

We are staying at a guesthouse in a heritage building complete with all the creeks and groans.

The floor boards outside our room, and yes that light you see is from downstairs. Hope you are all proud of me.

But seeing as this is the view out my window, I can survive a few (hundred) holes in the floorboards.

In July 2008 Georgetown became a UNESCO world heritage site. It is officially recognized as having a unique architectural and cultural townscape in all of East and Southeast Asia. (And yes wiki did help with that tit bit)

I love the town and think its beautiful, it's full of stunning architecture and lots of street art. So I'm (clearly) going to share it all with you. Might get a a tad picture heavy so might make a two parter.

To start with some of the building just round the corner from the hotel.

Now to the art work, some of it is banksy like and the rest just pure strange.

They seem to like their cats round here. Doesn't compare to a sausage dog to me, but what do I know.

Now some of the art is a little interactive, so managing to get a picture of these ones without a Chinese  tourist in was no mean feat. Please appreciate the effort.

Yes it's a minion, I have no idea...

Looks like someone stumbled into my photo here, good job she only adds to the beauty.

That's all for part 1 tune in tomorrow for the rest of the day, may not have ended as culturally as it started. Possibly more retail related.....
