Date night in KL

So it's raining and we had nothing planned for the evening, so we did what any other person would do. We had a date night.

Our date night was dinner and a movie, we didn't want to stray too far from the norm.

As you may have guessed, the film choice was 'the other woman' although I got a little distracted by another cut out.

Hugh Jackman... Mmmm

But back to the date night, tickets were brought and it was time for food. It seemed rude not to go for a hotdog, standard cinema food. We just went upmarket and bought else where. Mine was your bog standard chilli dog with cheese.

Nik went more original

Finished off with this little delight, pink lemonade cupcake. With straw.

Film was brilliant, can 100% recommend. If you're female and not seen it, you really must. After the film we went for our romantic stroll to get the night pictures of the petronus towers.

Pretty standard night all in all. And niks not a bad date you'll be pleased to hear!!

KL the next day.

As our bus ticket was valid for 24 hours we popped back on the bus and visited the sites we'd missed due to bad weather and lack of directions the day before.

First was a drive by through little India (and yes I do now have the song 'drive by' by train in my head, hope you guys do too))

Doing the bus for a second time did mean we had the do the whole route again but at the palace we did see their version of 'changing of the guard' and yes that is Chinese tourists chasing the horses.

We eventually got to our official first destination, the war memorial, this place was not easy to find. But was definitely worth it.

One run back to the bus stop later and we were back on the bus for our next stop the mosque.

To enter the mosque you had to be fully covered so we were given what we called robes, not sure if that's the official name. Once we had these on we felt like we'd had our letter from Hogwarts and were off to school. The mosque wasn't quite Hogwarts but it was pretty amazing.

Once inside we met a really helpful guide who explained the entire mosque and how it was built. So interesting and much more fun than a RE lesson.

Once more on the bus before the tickets ran out, got some pretty good skyline pictures.

And then the last part of the afternoon was spent on a little treat.

Yes that's liquid nitrogen ice cream, well not literally but made fresh with the LN. And because it was all made from scratch they actually had soya as an option (yay for dairy free Ali) and of course normal for Nik.

Was pretty exciting seeing it being made.

And the finale result - rocky road soya ice cream not everyones cup off tea but definitely mine!

So that's it for the day, tune in for our evening antics tomorrow. Date night in KL.....

Let's all do the hop on/hop off bus

So from the title post I can imagine you guessed that for our first day on KL we decided to get the hop on/hop off bus so show us round the city.

First stop was the grand palace.

We made friends will all the guards

And then we were on to our next stop the KL city gallery.

This place was pretty cool, they had the largest scale model of the city. Looked amazing but did not photo well.  (Bit like me)

By the time we were through here it was pouring with rain when we got out. Never fun specially on a opened top bus so our next stop was a pretty easy choice, the petronus towers. Which also happen to have a gigantic shopping mall and the bottom of them.

We stopped for some food, other than it sizzled and was very peppery, can not remember for the life of me what this was. Not too shabby though.

After this we wandered the mall a bit and did some window shopping only. And no one takes pictures of that, so let's go straight onto dinner.

As we're staying in Chinatown it would be silly not to try some of the amazing street food stalls. Tonights choice was a pick your own BBQ sticks.

And yes really as simple as it sounds, you pick your sticks of meat or veg and they cook it for you. The veg you get to do yourself at the table in a steamboat.

Mmmm was very good.

Would recommend 100%. And that's all for our first full day in KL.

To Kuala Lumpur we go

The time has come to bid Georgetown fair well and say hello to Kuala Lumpur, KL from now on. We jumped on our bus to get us there and for once it wasn't too shabby. And before we knew it 5 hours later we were pulling up in Chinatown in KL. Exactly where we wanted to be, that's going to be the first and last time that happens.

We found our hostel and then set up to explore for the evening. Heading to the central market first as it would have been rude not too. Every possibility the shopping bug has been activated, not a good thing.

This place is divided up into different sections

My favourite section turned out to be the place which had an entire page on a menu dedicated to brownies. I was in heaven.

By the time we'd left Chinatown had been transformed into a beauty.

So that's KL day one, let's see what the rest of the time here brings.
