We were back working for the food company were we'd been on the burger van, at ekka they had loads of food things going on. Seafood stand, macaroons, coffees, lemonade and the old burger van. We made good on our wish not to be surrounded by Dagwood dogs for 10 days and ended up of our own individual lemonade stand. Yes that's right I sold lemonade for 10 hours a day, 10 days straight. Going up in the world!!
Looking back at the time now it doesn't seem too bad a memory, but that first day standing in the sun all day was not fun. Me and Nik both got given hats by nice older members of the community as we 'looked hot'. Not something I'd usually rock but I was so grateful for my little red number. So I spent my days shouting 'fresh lemonade' and 'icey cold' and smiling at everyone, it was hard work. I have a new found appreciation for anyone having to sell at anykind of food stand.
We got a 30 minute break a day (I know basically slave labour on a 10 hour day) and I went exploring all areas of the festival.
I actually don't have too many pictures of the different things happening, clearly rushing in my limited time and the camera got forgotten.
I did manage to take a few snaps of some of the food sampled, it would have been rude not to try and a girl can't survive on Dagwood dogs and chips, although i did try that for a few days...
I did find that lemonade was a good item to trade for other snacks, and I got friendly with the German sausage guy next door and made a fair few trades throughout the show. Sadly wasn't enough to trade with the stall opposite me, but in hindsight not sure I really needed a cuddly toy or inflatable to get me through my travelling.
My favourite day had to be when the sausage dogs were on show, it was in my little dog heaven (and maybe a little teary).
I mean come on it's, it's a Charlie double!! Who wouldn't get sad when they saw that.
I feel this is such a small overview of what the ekka was like, something I certainly won't forget in a long time. But that's what travelling is for I guess, doing things you just wouldn't do normally. Safe to say running my own lemonade stand is well and truly crossed off the list! I'm going to leave you with a little snap of me when it started to rain, this was early on in the day when I could still smile about it. That soon disappeared when the rain carried on....
I have been waiting forEver to see these pics!! Looking v trendy ladies in your tee's! Love the yarn bombing :o)
